Access to the abbey

From Perpignan follow the direction signposted for "Andorre" until arriving at the village Villefranche-de-Conflent. Then follow the direction for "Vernet-les-Bains", at the roundabout for Vernet-les-Bains, take the turnoff marked "Casteil" and follow the signs to arrive at Casteil. Allow one hour for the trip from Perpignan to Casteil.

It is necessary to leave your vehicle at Casteil as it is not permitted to drive private vehicles up the access road to the abbaye. In the village of Casteil the access to the abbey is well signposted.

By bus or by train

There is a bus service between Perpignan and Vernet-les-Bains, with a continuation as far as Casteil offered once a day. It is possible to walk from Vernet-les-Bains to Casteil in about half an hour.

The train stops at the station of Villefranche-Vernet-les-Bains which is 8km from Casteil. You can take a taxi from the train station.

Once at Casteil, you have two options for accessing the abbey

Walking : by a paved path which is signposted and starts close to the small church of Casteil. Depending on ability, journey times may vary from 20 minutes to one hour (the path is 1600m long with an ascent of about 300m).

A shuttle service is available in summer and once a week in spring and autumn.

Please note: a religious community lives in the abbey and visiting hours are therefore restricted. Please verify the visiting hours before arriving at the abbey.
